Syria – small single family residence, completed in 2012. The house sits on the east slope of the Blue Ridge Mountains, on an existing hillside meadow. The site overlooks Graves Mountain, Big Tom and the town of Syria in the valley below. Program includes open studio space, darkroom, interior moss wall fed by rainwater, rooftop beekeeping and use of on site materials (stone, fallen black locust trees). A planned fish run originates inside a ground level room and extends out, underneath windows, to a larger fish pond outside. A second home of the same design is built on a neighboring property.
