Seal Harbor - Located between Acadia National Park and the Ocean, on Mount Desert Island, Maine. This home sits on a slope of evergreens, overlooking islands and the sea. Two wings are constructed in a traditional Maine-like manner, with cedar shakes and gabled forms on a granite base. Between those wings is an open, vaulted space housing the entry and main living space, with a bridge crossing overhead between the two wings. This central section is detailed with a shiplap mahogany to follow the cedar pattern, and opens as a flowing space without doors or full dividing walls. The entry sequence follows a version of the island, stepping out of forest, across stone and in to an open perch and large deck to view the island and waters beyond. Nate Holyoke Builders .
